My dear Gertrude

A brief midweek note. No letters at all from you this week but I thought I was getting rather ahead of things last week.

Another week two thirds through & I seem to have done nothing towards the "exam". However the days work has been more productive. Our weather very mild & still keeping fine.

I enclose another card - a view down a steep lane beside the "Chequers" Hotel - outside the gate. It shows the rolling nature of the country round here - quite good for artillery work in consequence. Had an interesting two hours along this road this morning - practical map work - making a scale map of a route from the camp to a point two miles away. It is having much more practical work of this kind that has made work in "F" company much more interesting & more easy than the previous work.

The very good news from France yesterday is especially important at this time - especially added to Allenby's Palestine advance. I hope all goes well & you are keeping fit.

With best love.

Yours,
Jack
