Dear Lulu

I wonder - since I have no letters to read, except some old ones - how you are getting along. I wonder whether there is not some agency by which I could not get you here by my side. We could have such a happy time together. There are the finest sands I have ever seen; Ramsgate is a children's Paradise. We can hear distinctly the roar of artillery over in Flanders, & sometimes there is a distinct sense of concussion. It makes one's heart ache.

I have been before a Medical Board, & ordered treatment - massage & manipulation. The doctor also said that he would see me again in a few days. So I know no more about my future again. It appears that men invalided to Canada go over in Hospital ships about once a month; but there seems to be quite a 'waiting' list.

I have met quite a number of men who were in the old 209th. One - a man from my old circuit - expects to go to Canada on the next boat; he has lost his left arm. Another from the same place has a stiff shoulder. Cpl Peel I hear is somewhere in London; I shall try to get in touch with him & let you know about him. It is a good place to find out about old friends, I find.

I had a letter from Carman, & he seems to be doing well, but is anxious to get to France; I hope he wont get his wish for some time. How is Ainley?

I am sending you two p.c. of the Hospital here, & will put in also some that I got in France & carried about with me all the time. They were in my kit bag when I got wounded, so there is no blood upon them. It is all just good French dirt. I found it almost impossible to keep things clean. They are mostly places where I have been.

Well, I hope you are quite well, Lulu dear & that you are not overworking yourself. Dont do too much gardening. I can imagine you in your soiled garden dress & only wish I was by your side; I am afraid I should hinder more than help on the good work though

With best love, Yours affectionately,
Tom.
