Dear Mother

I received your letter this morning, I was sure please to get it too.

We are having quite a good time out here so far.

I haven't seen anything more exciting yet than the Germans shelling an English airoplane. weve see that several times. We are camped in a large school house in a town about six miles from the firing line.

Yesterday I was up into the 3rd line Trenches but there was nothing exciting happening, although there ahs been a very heavy bombardment to the south of us ever since we got here. I went to church today, we had a very nice service. There is a very fine Cathedral in this town & although the Germans occupied the town last fall for 8 days they did no damage at all.

I got everything I want just now, Mother, thank you but you can send me some cigarettes some time if you like. The address was quite correct.

I haven't much to write now for the things one could write about are not permitted.
