Dear Mom:

At last I have taken the first step towards home. I arrived her yesterday and will be going on leave about Thursday or Friday until the tenth.

The Queen "E" sails again on the 15th so I should make that although we have had no definite word yet. That would bring me home somewhere around the 25th.

This camp is at Witley, you will find it on the map between Haslemere & Guildford.

I would have been on my way now if I had not been on the rear party. Why I was on that I will never know for there was nothing for me to do as they took the jeep away from me.

The fellow that the jeep was given to smashed it up the next day. He was lucky and didn't get hurt but he sure ruined the jeep. The boys had to load it on a truck to get it back to camp. It must have been luck or good management on my part for I put 12,000 miles on it and never scratched the paint.

As this is my last leave and I have not been up to Scotland I am going to see what I can do about going up there.

Last week Box 44 arrived safely so that should finish them.

I don't know what happened to Gram's Christmas box as it only arrived last week. There was a couple of pairs of socks in it that are grand.

We have had some cold wet windy days for the last while.

They just told us that we are to sail on the 13th so I may be home before the 25th. The Army sends a wire to the boy's homes telling them what time the train arrives so I won't have to worry about that.

Another thing I don't know if I will be able to see Gram as the train may not stop there as the boys are for the west.

You don't need to worry about writing any more as I don't think that I would get it before I leave.

The end of the paper. See you soon.
Love, Ted.
