Shorncliffe, Kent.

April 17, 1916.

My dear Win,

Many thanks for your letter, the Chronicle, which arrived safely this morning. The chronicle seems to have grown smaller in quantity but not so in quality. As to the list of old boys on active service, you might add these whom I have seen - Bob, Redman, Ivan Kinloch, Chilton Newburn, Gordon Grahame, Allan Gill are all near here.

I had a letter from your Dad yesterday. I am very glad that the cricket bat arrived safely, and I hope it will make some youngster glad. I remember how, some nine years ago, I used to wish and wish that I could win a nice bat. Those were great days, Win. I went to the school nine years ago last Tuesday. What a lot has happened since then.

Bob is looking simply splendid and has grown tremendously. He is almost as tall as I am now, and is very broad shouldered. He loves the life, and will be going to France very shortly. I know he will like it out there. I only wish I was there now.

The socks you mentioned have not put in their appearance yet, but I am looking forward to them. I received a lovely white pair the other day.

Well, Win, must close now, but will write you again shortly. My very kindest regards to your mother and father.

Yours sincerely,
Beresford Hamilton.

Ivan Kinloch and Chilton Newburn were killed in action in France.
