Dear Mother

Just a few lines to let you know I am well and hope you all are the same. I received a cake from you and also a letter today and was glad to get them both. The cake and chocolates were fine.

Well this time I think I have a little surprise to tell you. Some 4 weeks ago several of us applied for Commissions Rank in the Battn and they came through a few days ago. So we were sent to a certain town near here and got an officers uniform so now we are Lieutenants the only thing we did not like was the fact that we had to change to other companies.

We had quite a snowstorm this afternoon and now it is melting and making a deuce of a mess. Father does not need to think that here [?] I do not write often that paper is scarce. It is the news that is scarce and it is mighty hard to write when one has no news. I had a letter from Blanche a few days ago she seemed to getting on O.K. I will just give you my address as it is now. Lieut. C.B. Hamm #2 Coy 7th Canadian Inf. Battn. France. Well I guess that just about finishes up all the news I have at present so I will ring off.

Write soon.

Goodbye.

Charlie.
