Dear Mother:-

Well Xmas has come and gone once more and we are still carrying on. We held our Xmas dinner at 4:30 just at dark. It was not what you would call a success but then it made it seem more like Xmas to have the excitement of preparing for it. However I managed to get all the chicken, pork, etc., that I wanted. We had tinned pudding but it was very good. We had lots of beer left over.

We had a very quiet Xmas but I guess you had a pretty quiet one also.

That package of Edgeworth tobacco mixture that you sent me just arrived on Xmas Eve. I enjoyed it very much as we get such punk tobacco issued and they have only the cheap English tobaccos at the canteen.

The boys told me there is a parcel for me so I guess it is your Xmas parcel. I will get it tonight.

I am going to try and get a pass and go and see Syd.

Well give my love to everyone. Tell Frank to hold on and be sensible; he has lots of time to join the army.

Jack
