Dear Mother:

Just have time for a short note today. Have just completed a short move and am a bit tired so am scrawling a line on my knee before I turn in. Haven't much news. Have been having it a bit livelier the last few days and have been very busy. Have had no Canadian mail since I last wrote but am expecting one today. I sent you a little souvenir the other day, a jug made from a German cartridge whiz bang shell with a handle made out of a driving band of a German shell. I hope you get it all right. Sorry I did not yet it cleaned up but it is hard to get the time and material so thought I would let you get it done at a jewellers. Also sent some cards. Hope they go all right. By the way when Ben Conrad went to England I gave him an address and asked him to send a little parcel but he was sending things for several of the fellows and by mistake asked you to send a dictionary which someone else had asked for. Possibly you may have sent if before you receive this but if not don't send it until you hear from me again anyway. Have been planning on getting one when I go on leave and will see what I can do. If I don't then I will let you know and then write for one. It is rather nice to have over here at times and a good thing with which to jog one's memory for descriptive adjectives at anytime. Leave is still a doubtful question but think I'm going to get away in about a week's time - hope so anyway. Now must close and turn in. All well. Excuse scrawl.

Love to all, Harold
