Dear Brother Earle:

Just have time for a few lines today in answer to letter of April 22nd received a couple of weeks ago. Was sorry to hear of your accident and hope by now you may be quite well again. Well Earle we are having lovely weather. In fact it could not be better for although every day is bright and clear there is always an nice, cool breeze blowing and it is never too hot for comfort. However I suppose the hot weather will soon be setting in the now. I am sitting out in front of my dugout writing. Have the pad on my knee so you will have to endure scrawl. Major Prowse received word yesterday that he had been awarded the D.S.O. It is an honor which he certainly deserved for it would be difficult to find a more efficient officer or one who has shown greater devotion to duty. And not only is it an honor to him as commanding officer, it is also a tribute to the efficiency of the battery he commands.

Saw Mr. Cross a couple of times last week. Went down and hunted him up Thursday afternoon and had a long talk with him. He is between three and four miles from us and has a splendid YMCA outfit. He is working with the Third Division Artillery and is doing a great deal for them especially in the line of recreation and games. Although we are not in his division he is starting a reading and writing room for us in an old cellar and is also trying to get in a gramaphone and records. It will be fun for us especially to have a nice quiet place for writing. Think I mentioned seeing. [?] in one of my letters. Saw Joe Hogan ; he looks great and seems to be enjoying the life

Well Earle I don't think I have much news, everything goes on in the same old groove and there is not much to write about. The boys are all and enjoying splendid summer weather. Eon and Herb are fine and I never felt better. I see where Claude passed third all right. I supposed he will be going on to one of the universities in the fall.

Now I must ring off for this time write again soon. Tell mother received her letter of May 7 and will write in two or three days

Love to all from your soldier brother, Harold
