Dear Emma

Glad to receive your letter, I also had one from Jack which I enclose with a previous one of his, also one of Sydney's, and I have forwarded your letter to Jack. He will send it on to Sydney.

As you can see I am still here, and by the looks of things likely to be for some time as our unit has been re-attached to Moore Barracks hospital, so that it looks as though we will be here for a while till the next big move, perhaps not till next spring.

Both Jack & Syd seem to be O.K., Jack in winter quarters and Syd at the base with the horses so that they probably escape the rigors of living during a winter campaign, which is harder than the actual fighting.

Things are fairly humdrum with myself now, getting enough sleep during the day to last the night for I must confess I still become pretty sleepy. I have one patient pretty sick tonight, so that he has to have a special nurse, so that takes him off my hands.

I have just received the Post for Oct 9th, received the Oct 2nd copy about the 20th of Oct. I will send Jack some tea tablets and tobacco, but the Canadian tobacco is much better and half the price even after the postage is paid. It is a good idea to send it often and regular. T & B and McDonald's chewing simply cannot be replaced in this country, the chewing is so comforting when a march cannot be struck in the trenches and on the march at night.

Remember me to inquiring friends. Love to the kiddies and yourself.

John
