Dear Emma

We expected to leave for France last week but something went wrong.

Have heard from Syd & Jack, a letter from Jack & a field card from Syd. They are evidently well, am writing both Jack & Syd tomorrow.

Received the Life & Post yesterday, much obliged. An occasional Free Press would not hurt. Say, send some more T & B chewing tobacco. You do not know how much they appreciated by myself & friends.

Do you see Mrs. Aspinoza frequently? Tell her I am looking after her hubby.

Everything is all O.K. with me since writing last. Have had a trip to Netley Hospital with a lunatic, also have been down to Rye again. I mentioned in a precious letter gong with nine patients. This time though was to nurse a case of cerebrospinal meningitis. My patient died, so stayed for the funeral and a few days isolation for fear of infection. Hurried back as I heard my unit was leaving for France, found on arrival departure was delayed but I suspect not for long.

Tell me in your next letter if you are receiving separation allowance and my assigned pay all O.K., also if the Patriotic Fund is doing anything.

Give my love to all, would appreciate an occasional letter from them.

John
