Dear Mother -

I received your letter today and that fellow Douglas has not turned up yet to my knowledge and I was told that his pass was up on Wednesday. I sent my [?] home and a bag of Bill May's and he wants to have it kept for him so you can keep it as this is nothing important in it and if he never wants it again you can do as you please with it. There were a big bunch of members and other public men down here yesterday. Mrs. Simpson was here and saw [?] and I also saw Joe Nolin and Mr. Balfour or Regina. I have had some pictures taken but I do not know how they have turned out yet. Tell Edna that I will be sending her some snaps some of these days. Turner says that Uncle Dick wants me for something but I do not know what he wants. We have got most of our uniforms now and a few of us had our snaps taken and I look like an Irishman. We have to get out next week fro night attacks and Bill and I have been looking over the ground. Gee it has been raining some down here, nearly every other day. The other afternoon we went for a march of about six miles with our great coats and it turned out awful hot. I have been on duty for three Sundays running now. I have not got Eddies letter yet but there is another train today and it might come yet. Yesterday we were on fire guard and had to sleep all night with our clothes on. A fellow named Wills has been discharged, but his father has died in the states and I think that is what he left for. We are going to have a big day down here on the 1st I think the camp will be open to everybody and there are to be a day of sports. Bill and I have the honor of being told by our Sergt. That we are two of the best under him and he sure is a nice fellow. He things quite a bit of our shooting and he says we will be the best in his bunch. I do not know if you can read all of this as we have no place to write on. They are trying to get all of us passes and trying to got the fare down to one cent a mile but I do not know how it will turn out. That fellow Stevens that Irene said was her cousin got his discharge for coming in drunk from pass. I do not know if she should know but she asked me if I would look him out. There has been a big outfit of artillery come in since last week and are away across the track from us next to the C.M.R.s We have a full dress parade tomorrow morning and I have all my buttons to clean and outfit to fix up some of these days when I have a little money to share I will send you some badges mountain on pins for a souvenir and a few buttons off our uniforms. There is always a great scramble for mail twice a day down here. Some of the fellows say we are going to Egypt from here but I do not take any stock of it and I am sure we will be here for another couple of months anyway before we leave as we have an awful lot to learn yet. I got a pair of sales put on my mocassins for walking around and they sure are a great rig. Well this is all the stuff I can think of now,
