Sun Sept 19th 15

Dear Mother:-

We landed in France safely and are having a rest today. We are billeted in a stable. The rest of the battalion is billetted at farms in the district.

We are having dandy weather here, sunshine but not hot. Regular home weather. I saw Syd this morning. He is looking well and happy. He is about a mile from us.

The day before wec left we were bivouaced near Dad's barracks so I was able to spend the day with him. I had all my meals with him that day.

We expect to be in the trenches in a few days. There is not much to tell as we have to be careful what we write but as long as you get letters from one of us you will know that we are O.K.

France is a fine country and the farms are well looked after. There are more fences than in England though the buildings are much the same.
