The trenches

May 27th 16

Dear Mother:-

Rec'd your letter of April 18th enclosing one of Aunt Ethel's. I am so glad that she seems so happy. Well she deserves it.

Yes the battalion is pretty well cut up but I am all right yet and so is Syd. You needn't worry about him as he stays with the transport and hauls rations for the machine gunners.

Dad has got fine quarters with his unit and is looking O.K.

We will be out on the 31st. I have been with the battalion about 3 weeks.

Archie McElheren came back a few days ago together with several more of the old boys. He is looking fit. Norm Rogers has gone on pass and McDonald is still with us.

Well dear keep smiling and don't worry. I have to close now.

Love to all

Jack
