Dear Mother,

Received your last letter on the 8th but I don't know whether I answered it or not.

Well I am still doing nothing but stick around and look wise.

I went over and saw Evert yesterday. He is on the next draft for the 27th together with a lot more of the casualties. Jimmy Playfair is away on draft leave now.

I saw Archie McElheran this morning when he was being dispatched to Bexhill for his officer's course. He is a Sergeant Major now.

I received a letter from Frank the other day saying that Syd is in hospital with tonsilitis.

I suppose Granma and Aunt Edie will be back in Vancouver long before this reaches you. It must have been fine for you to have them with you for a while. Did you see Uncle Fred when he was down?

I am feeling pretty good and I am in good quarters, with lots of grub and blankets so what more could a soldier want?

Is Uncle Arthur still at Bramshott? Where is Mary living now?

I suppose the Barker boys will be in the army as conscripts soon. They'll have to suffer yet. Are they rounding up many conscripts yet? They will get it in the neck when they come over.

Give my love to all.

Jack
