Dear Mother,

Received a letter from you on Friday enclosing one from Aunt Bessie.

I had some postcards from Syd the day before from Monaco and some other place on the Italian frontier. I don't know what he is doing down there unless he has got a groom's job or something. All he said on the card was that he was having the time of his life and was travelling around in a motor car.

I had a field card from Frank dated Sept. 29th saying he was quite well.

Well this is my last week at this school and I am going down to the base next altho I expect 3 or 4 days leave to go up to Croydon to see the Rows.

We are having rotten weather today or I would not be in now. It is pretty slow here when it's raining.

I guess you were surprised when you heard that Aunt Edie was coming to the 'Peg. It's a good many years since she did any travelling.

I heard from Dad about a week ago but he did not say much in his letter.

How is Ford Hawkes getting along in France? Do they hear from him very often?

Is Arthur still at Bramshott?

So the old landlord raised your rent, eh? Well I don't think you can improve your position by moving. I suppose Phillip is back at school again and Bessie is still carrying on with her job.

Have you had any word from Syd lately? I have had nothing but cards for the last two months.

Looks as if winter has come here. Measly cold rain and wind.

Love to all,

Jack
