May 22nd '16 Dear Mother:- We are having very hot weather just now. Had church parade yesterday and expect to be going into the trenches tonight. I shall be seeing Syd this afternoon as we are going to transport. It has started to rain. I had to stop for a parade so it is now night and I will finish this scrawl as I am all packed up and we are leaving our blankets with the transport. I showed Frank's picture to the fellows and they all think he is a young fool to join the army when there are three from the family in France, but what's the use, we all want to find out for ourselves. Be sure and send us pictures of the rest of the family as soon as you can. Love to all and yourself Jack
