[delivered to Toronto Dec 12, 1916] No 3 Wing France Hello Ann Must write and tell you what a grand spot this is. We are quite near the Alps and yesterday was my first view of them in the air & it was too wonderful to describe the high snow caped peaks, jutting away above the clouds. It is usually too misty to see them from the ground. I am flying one of the fastest and best machines there is. It's like having a fast good horse in a race. You have perfect confidence in it. It's what they call a 1 ½ strutter sopwith, and some buss. & if they get me, it won't be from not having a chance. There are a fine bunch of fellows here and "all out" as they express it. Quite nice quarters & mess. We are quite close to a dear little French town so quaint & old with five mineral baths for a Frank a dip which is quite a grand thing in this business. We are attached to the French & a short time ago the American flyers were here but have been transferred up the line somewhere. John Chisholm is in my cabin and Art Whealy is here as well so the Curtiss Newport news [?] school is well represented, the Curtiss training at last has helped us. We were given a Curtiss to show how we could land a machine & although its eight months since I last flew one, it all came back to me & we were at once given one of their pet sops. Lots of love to you all. Pete
