C.M.H.E. – 9/9/17.
My Dear Nerta,
Sunday Afternoon and plenty of time so I am going to make an afternoon of letter writing. Am writing Miriam and sending her a bunch of snaps, so you had better not send her this letter, they would be too much alike.
The two larger (sepia) snaps in this bunch are made with my new large camera, but I am using ¼ (3¼ X 4¼), plates in it, till I get more used to the lens and shutter. Got it pretty well tho for a start eh?
At noon to-day, I took pictures on full size plates, of X raying a patient, the main building and the Lady Beck Building. The one of the main building, is just like the enclosed but takes in all of the building. Pretty fair outfit, I think and believe I will be able to sell quite a few prints at one shilling. Can’t sell them for less now, as everything is going up so in the photographic line.
We are getting some meals here now. To-day for dinner, we had lovely roast beef, new potatoes, fine canned tomatoes and suet pudding. After which I had ¼ of an apple pie from the officer’s kitchen. Feel full yet. I have charge now of indenting for and accounting for all rations for the personnel. This includes Officers, N. Sisters, Sgts. & men’s messes, so I have to take a trip around to all these kitchens every morning and naturally get a little to eat once a while.
I have enough work just to keep me nicely busy, but not rushed to death.
I am not sure whether or not, I have sent you any of these snaps, But if I have, pass them on to Floss, as I don’t think she has had any of them. I am just as crazy on photography as ever. These snaps of me, you may or may not have had, but Miriam has none of them so pass them on to her.
I sold case and all with my camera, as the little one I bought, is slightly wider, and it weighs a good deal more too.
I like that neg. album, as it keeps them so well, otherwise they are so easily scratched, & that puts them out of business to a certain extent.
You seem to be having your own share of storms this year. We have had a few too and twice when I have been standing in the laboratory window the lightning has struck very near, and fire came in the room both times. The windows are all leaded in little panes, and I suppose attract the lightning more or less.
Your last M.A. arrived all right, and I cashed it and spent a good chunk of it before I came home. Ten shillings does not go very far over here, believe me.
I am enclosing some Sepia snaps marked X which are for Floss. Am sending Miriam some of the same ones.
Lovingly,
Worth.
Mother asked me to forward these to you. Hope Berniece gave you my letter dear Addie just arrived home from Tillsonburg with some cakes for me.
Love Nerta
