My Dear Dad,

at last Canadian mail is coming thro. I received to-day, your letter of May 6^th and The Mater’s parcel of April. Sorry to say the parcel was rather wrecked, both jars of fruit being broken. Thank goodness, the candy is perfectly all right and the book will be when dried out. You can’t realize just what mail means, after being without it for such a long time.

By the way, tin boxes do not carry nearly as well as those heavy paper boxes do.

I sent a silver match box to Eastbourne to be engraved, and sent on to you. I want it, when I return and thought I had better get it over, while the getting is good.

You are very wise to have those piston rings changed. It will mean fully 25% more power and give much less trouble on hills. Think you will find less carbon with them too. Be sure you get someone who will do it right. Is Herb still around there, or has he left? They did a cheep job on it, hope the paint wears O.K.

That tax idea is rather unreasonable I think. If on stock purchased after that time, it would not be so bad, but take the larger stores who have bought considerable stocks of stores and are holding for a rise, it will be rather tough. Business is keeping up wonderfully well, hope it continues. Sorry you are not able to keep up the repairs. Is Bains able to handle any work for you now.

[Kim?] told me that you and Rush had it, but didn’t say just what was said. That is his usual sarcastic way tho and I am anxious to know how the Huntley deal came out, but there will likely be later mail thro in a day or two now.

Too blooming bad that the Toronto business is not turning out better, I was afraid they would have trouble with a line like that, but hope they pull thro all right, I imagine the [?] material would be hard to get. I thought Uncle Will had, had enough experience to get into something that was absolutely certain.

Have had a pretty heavy day to-day, hardly a minute from 7 AM. till 6.30 to-night. It has not been too bad lately tho, only the usual month-end work. -Six months in France to-day.
