Dear Dad,

I really intended going down town this aft., but there is one of our fine rain storms on. Never mind, the rain got us thro the Harvest moon without much trouble and Blighty got off Scott free.

By the time you get this letter you should have big news. It has already started coming in, and apparently this drive will be the greatest success the allies have had.

We have had a great deal of mail lately, but not many parcels have come thro.

You surely had a good trip to Mitchell, and saw them all. I can just imagine what F. is like, as he always was that way. Too bad about Uncle Joe tho, hope he soon feels better.

I don’t understand why sugar should be short over there. I thought Canada produced three or four times as much as she consumed.

My but the youngsters are growing up, it just seems yesterday that Helen & Miriam O, were little tots. How are Helen’s eyes and does she wear her glasses now?

By [?] but watches are going up in Blighty, I saw one the other day, just about the same as the “Mars,” neither cut expansion nor Breguet terminal but it was in a fancy shaped case (square) with luminous figures & hands, It cost £4/15/. Watches like the zenith alarm which I bought are £ 6/- or 7/- in Blighty now & I only paid [?] .100. If we are over here much after peace is declared I would like to get into Switzerland and look the watch market over. It would not surprise me, if the Zenith & some of the others are made in France along the Swiss borders & I would like to find out. If I am here long enough to get a second leave I will go to Southern France. Some of our boys have been down there already, but I think I will go to Blighty for my first leave whenever it comes.
