M.B.C.H.,
14/11/16.
My Dear Nert,
Well I am a little late writing as I have two letters of yours to answer. The one I got Sunday, with the money order was a little late getting here, as I ran short, of course now my mail goes to London, Seaford and then here. As soon as I am sure I will be left here, I will have mail directed to me here. We were paid to-day tho so I am O.K. now.
I am writing in a new Y which has just opened across the plains from camp, and will be very handy. It is not finished yet, but they have it ready to use as it was very much needed.
I hardly think I will get up to the 168th camp, this week, as I want to go Saturday to Canterbury if possible, several of us will go. Will try to make a few pictures. When I have a smaller one, I will carry it more and use it oftener. It will be set focus and much cheaper to operate. I hate tho to send the other home till I have made views of Seaford. But I may go there any time.
I have a couple of pretty good fellows on the ward with me now, and we are sure working, it will take us a week to wax and whitewash all I want done. It seems our work is never thro.
We have had about a week without rain, and it is really beautiful weather, not cold at all and good sunshine. It is very dark to-night tho and likely we will have rain before long now.
You sure must have had some time with the children that day. I see by my last Observer (Oct. 5) that she is the latest addition to the Red Cross.
I got a letter from Nixon all right, but just a day or two before he came over. I hope to see him next week. See by to-nights paper that Sham Shoes has resigned and his resignation accepted. That sure is very bad.
You had better send Floss, any prints you have of me in London. That one in the hammock on the verandah at home, is sure a good one. Very good of Gert Bosworth to send an enlargement. I asked her to send the film to Hazel to lend you to print some from as I thought it was very good. I have not even seen the proofs yet of the ones I had taken down town. They were mailed and have apparently gone astray. I have tho, asked them to send duplicates, which I should have to-morrow or Thursday.
Miriam is certainly gaining some. I hope I continue to do so, as I can stand it. I think it very funny that I have had not the least touch of hay fever, because it must be damp here right above the channel.
Yes, Nert, I am beginning to feel quite at home in the kitchen now. Of course now that I have charge, I don’t wash the dishes all the time myself, but let the other fellows do it quite frequently. I dry or do some of my other work I help them the whitewash and wax, their wards, and then they will have to help me when I do the centre. I always do the dishes in the morning tho, unless a patient helps.
Say if wool is so scarce, Kaki or grey will do as well as white. Of course I prefer white, but don’t turn the others down, if you can get nice wool, and make the legs, long about 18” I think from the bottom of the heel, would be about right. I will be wearing breeches, as soon as I get settled, and then the long ones will be fine.
We were never sure of the "nationality” of the visitors, but hope they have left for good. Will use the camphor tho to make sure.
Well Dear, I think I will really have to call a halt as it is 8 P.M., and I must return to my apartment and take a bath.
Lovingly,
Worth.
