Sandgate “Y.”,
14/1/17
My Dear Mother,
Well I now have yours of the 21st, but no others from home, nor the parcel as yet.
Things for Eastbourne are beginning to take shape. Our Matron who was in France, has been recalled, and is now somewhere in England. I believe part of the unit is already located in Eastbourne, but am not sure, we will be there, I expect, this time next month.
I went on duty yesterday morning but on ward 3. Everything being strange made me homesick all morning. I only expect to be on 3 till to-morrow night, as the boys are on escort and will be back then.
Lester came over to-night and told me Major C.V. was attached as a super. major to I think he said the 213 Batn. This will likely mean that he holds his rank, which is very fortunate as recent orders state that all C.E.F. officers, above Lieuts. must revert to that rank and go to France, or return to Canada and civilian life. I believe Bob W. is attached the same way to, I think the 7th Batn.
You have no doubt by now read the Allies Peace terms, which Germany will most certainly not agree to. So now we have to fight, till these are gained or we have lost all. This will take some time yet.
The plum pudding will sure be fine. Do I just have to warm it or put it in an open dish inside of a covered one with water in it so the steam will reach it. When you send it, you had better put in a tin box inside the cardboard one so it will carry O.K. If you have any more Christmas cake, send it the same way. Not particular about the icing as it breaks up, but do enjoy the cake so much.
I am very anxious to hear how the Christmas trade turned out, but I should hear this week.
Too bad about the gas. Ours has been bad too, (artificial).
The last I heard of Dr. Racy, was from Gert and Ray had just heard, he was very ill with fever. He is sure lucky to be back, but I’ll bet if he is well enough, he will return. Much as we all hate it, there is something about it that fascinates. I saw about D.L. McKeand same place about a month ago.
I hope that last box gets here before we go away. Then I can return some of my stuff and will not have so much to carry. I am nearly falling out of my trousers, but they are so nasty about new clothes here, that I am trying to make them last, till I get back to the unit.
I am enclosing hdkfs, which you can keep till I call for them, a copy of orders 14/1/17 where I am shown discharged from hospital – keep these. Nert can put them with the other things I have sent, also snaps, which are for you to keep. I will forward some for Floss next letter. I am sending a couple of papers of this date which I hope reach you. They are interesting, especially the women with the Russians.
Money order received O.K. Have next one made payable at Eastbourne, as we will likely be there by that time and I can have it changed, if we are not.
Well I guess this will be all to-night, I am feeling very well.
Lovingly,
Worth.
