Dearest Heart:

I have just had your letter of the 13th telling of your going to Germany. I am so glad for you for it will seem like a fitting reward for all you have done. It means though that you won't be home for Christmas but still we can do without one another this time can't we if we are going to have all the rest of our Christmases together. I suppose you have no idea yet how long you will have to stay in these German towns. I met a man on Sunday who has been in Seaford or Folkestone nearly all this year and he has been warned that he is to go overseas any time now to form one of the Army of Occupation. The papers now a days are the deadest dullest things imaginable - there is no official dispatch and we haven't got interested yet in just the ordinary every day news. Your lovely parcel with the pendant etc arrived this morning and caused great excitement amongst the fifty odd VADs. It was a beautiful collection. The salad fork and spoon will be useful! Did you say a Hun made them. The pendant of course was the chief interest and the men could tell me what kind each one was. They always love to see these trophies. We are beginning to settle down again to ordinary life though there is much unrest. We all wonder how soon we will be leaving and the men are beginning to feel they must get away as soon as possible in order to get established before all the good jobs are taken up. We have got so used to war we don't know quite how to settle down to peace. All my love and kisses my darling and all good luck in your progress to Germany.
