Dearest Arfa:
I have time for only a little note to-night. The patients are coming on well. Herbert is almost better and Mrs Ross expects to come home on Saturday. I am very glad as I don't care much for being mistress of the house under the circumstances. It has been pretty dull too and I shall be very glad to get over to be with you. I can't very well go this week dear heart but I'll promise pretty definitely for next even if I have to leave them all in bed.
I you haven't time to look for a house or flat I could board somewhere for a few days and hunt up a place at my leisure. I hope you won't have to go off to Ottawa right away but I suppose we will have to take what the fates send us and it isn't a very long course anyway.
The Daughters of the Empire have just sent off a tone of Christmas goodies, cakes and puddings and cigars and chocolates etc to the soldiers at the Front. I don't know if they will send anything to the ones still in Canada - it would be too bad to leave you out wouldn't it.
Now I must close dearie heart with heaps of love and kisses from your loving
Alice
P.S. It was awful sweet of you to send that
